Mark
Glomstead presents "The Business of Information Technology" at ValleyNet
Conference in Green Bay
"The Business of Information Technology - Operating your I/T department like a
business" was attended by a group of more than 70 business and
technology professionals at ValleyNet
2001 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Mark covered several key areas of
consideration: Customer Intimacy, Business Strategy (linkage), Value
Proposition (definition), ROI, and Marketing the I/T organization.
The Seminar
Highly effective I/T organizations develop strategic partnerships with the
business units they serve. As a
partner, they provide solutions closely aligned with
their organization's strategic business objectives.
Proper alignment of their corporation's I/T resources
will always provide solutions with a greater return on
investment.
Mark T. Glomstead, president of Information Advantage,
Inc., explores the importance of understanding your
organization's business strategy, while sharing
examples of how to link business strategy to information
technology initiatives. Mark will demonstrate the
importance of considering your ROI (return on investment)
when choosing projects.
Mark will look at the critical task of viewing your
I/T organization like a business, defining what your
(I/T) business is about, and being honest with yourself
about your group's strengths and weaknesses. By defining
your value-proposition and educating your customers on your
service offerings, you can position your company to win big
on every project. By developing a robust charge back system,
you provide business managers with the proper frame of
reference for I/T decision-making.
Prior to founding Information Advantage, Inc., a management
and systems consulting firm, Mr. Glomstead managed efforts
at Fortune 500 companies such as Texas Instruments, United
Airlines and Heller Financial Division of Fuji Bank.
These efforts included key positions on information
systems strategy initiatives, financial process streamlining,
yield management and portfolio decision support projects.
